Text Message (SMS) Consent & Opt-In
How churches using this platform collect consent to send text messages. Last updated: June 10, 2026
The service
Churches and ministries use this platform to send text notifications to their own members and regular attenders who have opted in: service and event reminders, meeting notifications, volunteer/serving schedule reminders, and pastoral updates. Messages are never commercial advertising to the public, and contact lists are never purchased, rented, or shared.
Message frequency varies by church and season (typically 2–8 messages per month). Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP at any time to opt out — opt-outs take effect immediately. Consent is not a condition of membership, attendance, or any purchase. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties.
How consent is collected
Members provide their mobile number and explicit consent through one of these flows:
1. Paper form (connection card / membership form) — completed in person at church. The form below is the standard wording.
2. Web form (member portal) — the same wording and an un-preselected consent checkbox, inside the church's member portal.
3. Verbally, in person — a staff member reads the description, frequency, rates, HELP/STOP, and Terms/Privacy information aloud and records the member's explicit "yes."
Verbal consent script
"We can send you church text updates — service and event reminders, meeting notifications, and serving-schedule reminders. Frequency varies, usually a few messages a month, and message and data rates may apply depending on your phone plan. You can reply HELP for help or STOP at any time to opt out. Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are at sermon.build/terms and sermon.build/privacy. Would you like to receive these texts?" — consent is recorded only on an explicit yes.
Opting out
Reply STOP to any message (handled automatically at the carrier level and honored by the platform), or contact your church office. Reply START to re-subscribe.
